MT SELWYN SNOW CLEARING DEPOT

Location: My Selwyn, NSW
Builder / Developer: Whitcon Constructions

RIC Electrics were engaged to carry out the electrical, communication, TV and fire services for the Mt Selwyn Snow Clearing Depot in late 2013. The project consisted of a new shed to house the snow ploughs and various other heavy machinery, a mechanical workshop, lunch room and restroom facilities. Part of our scope of works also included disconnection of services to the Barracks building for relocation by the Builder, and reconnection once it was relocated. It also had an extension that added four more bedrooms.

The project was unique because of its isolated location. Power to site was to be delivered from 2 x 100kVA generators, with water being pumped from Three Mile Dam, which was about 200 meters away. This meant we were required to trench and install a conduit and cable system from the main depot, to a small pump house near the dam. This was challenging as the trench was in shale rock, next to a dirt track and underneath the road leading to Mt Selwyn and Cabramurra.

RIC Electrics designed and manufactured the MSB and the Distribution Boards for the project in our Wagga workshop. The MSB was designed so that either generator could be selected, stopped and started from push buttons on the front of it.

The supply and installation of both generators and relocation of a 10,000 litre diesel tank were also the responsibility of RIC Electrics.

Lighting throughout the main shed was delivered by induction high bays, with led floods selected for the outside of the building.
