WAGGA WAGGA MARKETPLACE EXTENSION

Our teams’ turnkey solution powered $30m retail project

The expansion of the Riverina’s largest shopping complex, Wagga Marketplace in 2015 involved demolishing part of the existing building, extending the underground carpark and creating 3600m2 of new retail floor space.

The complex’s new electrical system was completed entirely in-house, bringing together the experience and know-how of four of RIC Electric’s divisions – Contracting, Switchboards, Communications (teledata), and Security.

It was our innovative approach and ability to provide a complete turnkey solution to head building contractor, Mainbrace Constructions that won RIC Electrics’ the contract to supply electrical services to the project.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • 3600m2 of new floor space
  • one-stop, turnkey solution
  • completed entirely in-house
  • minimal power disruption to tenants

Close Collaboration

Completing the project on time and under budget required collaboration from all the stakeholders, according to RIC Electrics’ Director, Andrew Dwyer.

“Our biggest challenge was minimising power disruptions to the existing tenants while the new network was designed, built and integrated with the existing network. Our work had to be carefully planned and delivered in close consultation with the builder and centre management.”

Unique Challenges

For Mainbrace Constructions’ senior project manager, Peter Stritt, the 17 month-long project posed some a raft of challenges. He said:

“Right from the start, RIC Electrics’ insights and ability to solve problems was invaluable to us – especially as the project had a lot of unknowns. A new substation had to be built and wiring and switchboards replaced or moved – all without disrupting power to the existing stores. At times, their teams worked into the night to make it happen. RIC Electrics played no small part in the success of the project.”
